Terms of Entry

Event date: 14-15 March 2027. These are the conditions of entry for the Calling Cape Town event. Accepting them is a required step in your application.

Version 2026.1 · Effective 1 September 2026

Indemnity and waiver

Participation in the Calling Cape Town event involves inherent risks, including but not limited to risks associated with trail running, hiking, technical terrain, weather conditions, physical exertion, dehydration, wildlife, and remote-area access.

By accepting these terms, every participant voluntarily assumes all such risks and agrees that:

  1. I participate entirely at my own risk.
  2. I hereby indemnify and hold harmless the event organiser, sponsors, partners, officials, volunteers, landowners, and any affiliated personnel from any liability, claim, loss, injury, damage, or death arising directly or indirectly from my participation.
  3. I accept full responsibility for my personal safety, equipment, hydration, nutrition, and conduct throughout the event.
  4. I confirm that I am medically fit and capable of participating in a strenuous outdoor event.

Swim leg acknowledgement and waiver

I acknowledge and understand the risks associated with the swim from Robben Island to Big Bay, or the designated loop swim route ("the Event"). I accept that participation in the swim may result in injury, hypothermia, marine hazards, permanent disability, death, or loss of or damage to my property.

I hereby indemnify and hold the event organisers harmless against any loss, damage, injury, or death that I, my estate, or my dependants may suffer arising from my participation in, or any activity associated with or incidental to, the swim leg of the Event, including the use of any facilities, vessels, or services provided.

Cape Town Cycle Tour disclaimer

I acknowledge that any segment of the Calling Cape Town route that overlaps with the Cape Town Cycle Tour (CTCT) falls under the authority, governance, and insurance of the CTCT organisers.

I understand that:

  • The CTCT section is not covered by the Calling Cape Town event’s indemnity.
  • All risk management, permissions, traffic control, and safety protocols on that segment are the responsibility of CTCT.
  • I agree to comply fully with all CTCT rules, marshals, and traffic instructions while on that portion of the route.

Event-specific environmental and safety conditions

I further agree to strictly comply with the following conditions set by the organisers and environmental authorities:

Approved routes only

I will remain strictly on approved routes and established hiking paths at all times and will not leave the trail except in a genuine emergency.

No littering

I will not litter under any circumstances. All personal waste, including food wrappers and packaging, will be carried until it can be disposed of at designated waste points.

Hydration protocol

I will use refillable hydration flasks only. No disposable cups will be provided at aid stations.

Wildlife interactions

I will not disturb, feed, chase, touch, or approach wildlife. All wildlife sightings will be treated respectfully and from an appropriate distance.

Fire safety

I will not smoke or ignite any open flame within park boundaries.

Environmental protection

I will not damage vegetation, move rocks, or interfere with natural features or infrastructure in any way.

Compliance with officials

I will follow all instructions from:

  • Event officials
  • Volunteers
  • The appointed Environmental Control Officer (ECO)

Compliance is mandatory and non-negotiable.

Road and intersection safety (mandatory)

I acknowledge that certain segments of the event may intersect or run along public tarred roads. For my safety and that of other road users, I agree to the following without exception:

  • I will use only the designated pedestrian crossings at the Kloof Nek intersection.
  • I will obey all traffic lights at the Kloof Nek intersection - crossing only when the pedestrian signal permits.
  • I will obey all traffic laws on any tar roads used during the event, including running on the correct side of the road where required, yielding to vehicles, and following marshal instructions.
  • I understand that failure to comply constitutes a serious safety breach and may result in immediate withdrawal from the event.

Mountain safety rule: no solo movement after dark

For safety reasons: no athlete may complete or traverse the mountain sections alone after 19:00.

From 19:00 onwards, all participants must travel in groups of 2 or 3 people, moving together at all times until clearing the mountain. Failure to comply will result in immediate withdrawal from the event.

Acceptance

By accepting these terms during your application, you confirm that:

  • You have read, understood, and agree to abide by all the terms above.
  • The information you have provided is true and correct.
  • You acknowledge that violation of any rule may result in disqualification or removal from the event.
